Research platform, not a ready-made general-purpose assistant

For a robotics lab, the useful question is not whether G1 can perform an impressive routine. It is whether the purchased configuration exposes the control, sensing and manipulation tools needed for a repeatable experiment.

Treat the robot, the learned policy and the task environment as separate parts of the system. A successful demonstration does not establish that the same behaviour is included in your purchase, works without supervision or transfers to a new room.

Evaluate it against a defined research task, with a repeatable baseline and a way to inspect failures.

Manipulation experiments

Start with object size, reach, contact force and the required hand. Confirm that the chosen configuration supports them.
